Recipe Round Up: September 2019

I absolutely love to cook (and eat!), but sometimes I get in a recipe funk. I want to try new things, but everything looks too complicated or boring or just plain gross. I think we all feel like this from time to time! This past month I challenged myself to try some new recipes — and bring out some of my old favorties — and I have been so happy with the results! And B and Bryant haven’t complained either : )

Today I decided to share some of the new recipes I’ve tried this month just in case YOU and your family are in a similar funk! Hope you all enjoy!

Oven Baked

Chicken & Potatoes

This was an easy one pan meal! I used chicken thighs instead of drumsticks and it was so delicious! I served these with a simple salad on the side.

This was a big hit in our house and will definitely be on repeat all season…

Tomato Glazed
Meatloaves

We love meatloaf around the Harpe household, and I love trying new variations. This recipe make little mini-loaves which I thought were so cute!

I served these with mashed potatoes and asparagus. So good!

Creamy
Mac & Cheese
Soup

This soup literally tasted like macaroni and cheese in soup form. This was a great option for “Meatless Monday” and I loved that it had hidden veggies (butternut squash) in the cheese sauce. You seriously couldn’t taste them at all! But it felt good to know they were in there with all the cheese :)

Chicken & White Bean
Enchiladas

This is an oldie but a goodie! I have made this recipe for years and it is my absolute favorite enchilada recipe.

I make Mexican food every Tuesday for Taco Tuesday, but it’s not always tacos! I love enchiladas, fajitas, and burritos too. These are sooo good and I think kids would even love them!

Creamy Tomato Soup
with Tortellini

This soup gets all the heart eyes from me!

It’s still 95 degrees here in Georgia, but I am protesting and still making soup. This was so creamy and just like a hug in a bowl.

Easy-Sweet-27n-Spicy-grilled-glazed-drumsticks-550x825.jpg

Sweet ‘n Spicy
Asian Glazed
Drumsticks

This is a good recipe if you are looking for something different! This was similar to barbecue sauce, but had just a hint of an Asian flair to it!

Balsamic Roast
Pork Tenderloins

I have used this recipe FOR YEARS.

It is a go-to when we have friends over for dinner and it’s so easy, but tastes like it cooked all day!

I usually serve this with mashed potatoes and asparagus! So good.

One-Pot Spaghetti
& Meat Sauce

I love anything that is one pot; Less dishes!

This is so simple and easy. The noodles cook right in the sauce, so no boiling and draining noodles!

I usually serve this with a basic Caesar salad and it’s a crowed pleaser!

August Favorites

Hey y’all! Happy September! I’m so excited for the start of a new month… Cooler weather & the start of fall… What could be better than that?!

But before August is too far gone, I wanted to share some of my favorites from the past month!

  1. Bondi Sands Aero Tanning Foam

I love a good tan, but my time to lounge by the pool has decreased significantly since Bryant was born! This summer I have been relying heavily on self tanner and I recently discovered this one at Walgreens and I love it!

I have used quite a few brands over the years and this one is my favorite so far. It is a very natural looking color and easy to apply. It also smells SO good and doesn’t have a weird artificial smell. I have been applying this every 1-2 weeks since mid-June and I haven’t run out yet, so I think you get a pretty good bang for your buck!

I shower, shave and exfoliate before applying. Then I use the Bondi Sands Mitt to apply it before bed, put on a long sleeve tshirt and pajama pants (to avoid any transfer to the sheets) and just rinse it off in the morning! Super easy and great results!

I have been working out at home a lot lately, and to be honest, I get sick of doing the same things all the time. So, this month I decided to switch it up and order some resistance bands! I have been surprised by how many different things you can do with these and how good of a workout you can get with them! I just look up “resistance band workout” on YouTube and get to work while Bryant naps!

I just want to apologize to all the Essential Oil enthusiasts that I used to make fun of endlessly. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still don’t believe that eucalyptus oil can heal cancer or grow back a bone, but I am a believer in the power of a house that smells clean!

I don’t really know much about diffusers but this one holds a lot of water, cuts off when the water runs out and is completely silent… Highly recommend.

Oh, and it has a bunch of different colored light options but I usually just have mine on white. FYI

I’m really terrible with money, so I made a decision this month to try and stick to a budget. I am still not great — No miracles to report here — but this app has really helped me keep track of my spending! I am no expert by any means, but I just thought I’d pass it along.

I’m sure I’m not the only momma who struggles to balance my marriage and motherhood. I truly cannot recommend this book enough if that’s the season you’re in! Even for moms of older children, I think this book is such an encouragement. Think of it as a “Love Dare” like from the movie Fireproof, but specifically for new moms and their husbands. I’m only 1 week into the 21 day challenge and I already feel like things are shifting to a more balanced place.

Feeling Myself Fall: Give Away!

Hello Everyone!

This weekend I was looking at our calendar over the next few months and I realized Halloween is only 10 weeks away! That is absolutely crazy to me. Time really is flying by and before we know it, it will be 2020.

I am so excited for the upcoming holiday season, but I know that with the holidays comes parties, festivals, and all sorts of fun things! I really want to look and feel my best going into the holidays, and Halloween is kind of the “kick off” to the season. I thought it would be fun to do a motivational/accountability challenge with any of my friends or followers who wanted to join! This isn’t about weight loss, but just feeling good and if we lose weight along the way… That’s win-win!

And at the end, I’m going to do a give away for people who interact and participate! Why wouldn’t you want to join me?!

Feeling Myself Fall.jpg

Here are the challenges:

  • Fitness: Do 50 workings between Monday 8/19 and Sunday 10/27. It can be just a walk around the neighborhood, a class at the gym or a workout on YouTube. Whatever will challenge you to feel your best!

  • Food: You don’t have to go on a “diet” but just try to make the best choices you can day to day. Any time you eat a healthy meal, snack or even just drink your water, post about your successes!

  • Monthly Calendar: I will share a monthly calendar with a different challenge listed on each day. These will be all sorts of different things like, text a friend you haven’t talked to in a while, track your water or even just stretching before bed.

Anytime you complete a workout, make a healthy choice or do one of the daily challenges, post about it on social media and tag me @laurabethharpe or use the hashtag #feelingmyselffall!

June Favorites

This month went by so fast! We had such a great beginning to our summer and I can’t believe how much Bryant is changing every day. I haven’t had a lot of time to shop and look for new products, but I have found a few good ones that I wanted to share! Some are products I personally love and some of things I use with Bryant. I hope some of these work for y’all! Let me know if you find anything you love too! : )

Tinted Moisturizer

My typical “holy grail” foundation is Estee Lauder’s Double Wear. I love that foundation and use it almost daily! But, during the summer, especially when I’m just running errands or even going to be outside in the heat, I like to use something a little more light weight (and less expensive).

I have tried a lot of tinted moisturizers, but I recently tried this new one from Avon and I love it! It’s buildable coverage, which I really like so I can customize my look based on the occasion. When I get sweaty in the Georgia heat, I don’t feel like it’s caked on my face either, which is a definitely plus this time of year.

Aviator Sunglasses

I love aviator sunglasses because I feel like they look best on my (big) head/face, but I lose sunglasses almost every time I get a new pair, so I wanted to find some that were cheap but also looked good. I found these on Amazon and I absolutely love them! I got them in brown and black, and they also come with a little case. Definitely great to keep in your bag or your car, and if you lose them, you’re not gonna beat yourself up over it!

Setting Powder

I usually don’t set my foundation with powder because I don’t like a super matte look, but in the summer when I’m sweating like a bodybuilder, a girls gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. I use this on top of full coverage foundation, tinted moisturizer and sometimes even on a bare face when I’m feeling extra greasy. This powder is super cheap and really good quality for a drugstore brand. I’ve used it for years!

Wool Dryer Balls

I was actually gifted these for Christmas and held off on using them for a while, mainly because I didn’t get it? But I’ve been using them for about 2 months now and I think they really do make a difference! I notice our clothes dry faster and they are a great replacement for dryer sheets! I spray them with essential oils sometimes, which I love since we use unscented detergent.

Baby Favorites

Included in this list are my favorite products for feeding Bryant both at home and on the go! Also included are our favorite teething ring and the sun hat we use when Bryant is swimming! The hat is our favorite because of the ear flaps and the fact that it ties around his neck, so I don’t have to chase it around the pool.
