Friday Five 8/16/19

We have had a GREAT week around here! With Bryant sick last week, I was going absolutely stir crazy so I was excited to have a few days to get out of the house and get back to normal.

  1. Ginnie’s New House

My grandmother decided this year it was time to downsize. She got the cutest little apartment and my aunt and mom have spent the last few weeks working hard to fix it up. It’s so weird to think she’s not in the house I grew up with her in, but I know she will love her new place just as much as it becomes home!

2. Baby Led Weaning Update

We set a goal for Bryant to try 100 foods before he turns 1 and this week we hit 50 foods! He is doing so good, and loves to eat. There really hasn’t been a food he hasn’t liked so far (which I know won’t last, but don’t rain on my parade) and I love watching him try new foods and textures. This past week we tried quinoa which was a MESS but he really seemed to like it once he got past the texture.

3. Back to School Fusion

We initiated the 6th graders into the youth group this week and it was just pitiful. Taylor always thinks of something gross to dump on their heads or make them eat! It’s hilarious but it makes them stronger in the end : )

Getting Back in the Kitchen

After Bryant was born, and trying to adjust to our new life and routine, we kind of stopped cooking for a while. We ate out a lot or would cook really basic stuff. This month I challenged myself to start cooking again, and I have loved it! This week we tried some new recipes, some tried and true recipes and B even made biscuits last weekend! I’m gonna do a post soon about some of the recipes we’ve tried, so be on the lookout for that.

New Additions to Our Home

With Ginnie moving, she wasn’t able to take all her furniture, so I got her China cabinet. I don’t have one of my own, so I was excited to get something like this from her. I love to entertain, so I have a lot of plates and serving pieces, and I’m happy they all have a home now.

Another addition at the house is our baby gate! We went as long as we could, but we couldn’t avoid it any longer. Bryant wasn’t a fan when we first got it but he is used to it now! And I like that this one is a neutral color and kind of blends in with our current decor. Highly recommend!

Friday Five 7/26/19

Whew! The past few weeks have been so crazy busy! I haven’t even had a chance to catch my breath. We have just been running in every direction, and then we headed to youth camp for a week to top it off! I’m thankful to have had a somewhat normal week to get back on a routine with Bryant! Here is just a little recap of the past week or so…

  1. Baby Led Weaning

We are continuing our baby led weaning journey, and I just thought I would share some of my recent faves.

I found this ravioli at our Kroger and Bryant ate almost the entire container in one sitting! They are the perfect size for his little hands to pick up but not so big I was concerned about choking. He is pretty good with a spoon, but we are still working on fork use so this was pretty much a finger food for him! We will definitely be buying more of these, and trying the different varieties!

We just bought this baby cup for Bryant to practice open cup drinking with and I absolutely love it. He can drink out of it really well if I’m holding it, but we are still working on him doing it himself! He can grip it really well since it’s so small, and it doesn’t hold much, so even if it spills, it’s not a big deal! I won’t go into too much detail, but for more information about teaching your baby to drink from an open cup click here.

2. BaseCamp 2019

Basecamp was a little different this year! I went each afternoon for supper and worship, and then headed home to sleep. I’m thankful for the time I got to go - I even brought Bryant with me on night - but I had major FOMO during the day! My mom is awesome and kept Bryant each evening for us, which I appreciated so much! I really enjoyed camp and I already can’t wait for next year. I think I will feel more comfortable leaving Bryant all week when he’s a little older, but we will see………

3. Cousin’s Day 2019

Facetune_23-07-2019-15-31-07.jpg

This year me, my sisters and my cousins planned a day to hang out and celebrate summer together. It was a blast! We ate chips and dip and tacos, swam in the pool, played games and sang karaoke! My sister Michelle wasn’t able to make it, and she was truly missed! But the rest of us had a great time. I hope this becomes an annual tradition!

4. Moving the Furniture Around

My husband and I are an excellent example of the old saying “Opposites Attract”. I am so spontaneous and random, but he is very concise and thoughtful. So, of course the other day when he got home from work, he wasn’t surprised that the furniture was all completely moved around.

I haven’t even decided if I want to keep it like this, but I like it for now… The dog days of summer are getting to me, y’all!

5. Bryant is 8 Months old!

My boy is growing on me, y’all. I can’t believe we are nearing the end of his first year! Bryant loves the water, he loves people and he is truly the happiest little guy. I am so grateful that I get to stay home with him most days. He keeps me on my toes — the days of laying on the couch while he chills on the floor are OVER — but, he is so fun. I wouldn’t trade these times for anything!

Christmas at The 101

"I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams..."

I know Christmas is over, but I wanted to document my decorations from 2016 before we take it on down on New Year's Day.

I love Christmas, just like everyone else, but I'm especially sad to take it all down this year. The lights, the colors, and the fullness of our home really makes me happy. I love how warm everything seems... How cozy. This year has been full of exciting things, happy things, hard things and sad things... I'm thankful Christmas is at the end of the year so I can end it full of the peace and joy only Christmas can bring.

I have never put pressure on myself to buy a ton of Christmas decorations all at once... I have slowly built my collection through the years. I have gone from one container of ornaments and a few holiday votive candle holders, to now being able to fill several rooms in our home with Christmas  cheer. It's not going in Southern Living any time soon, but I'm pretty proud of our house and how hard we've worked to make it our home : )

The Den:

The best Bath & Body Works holiday candle: Spiced Gingerbread

We had the prettiest tree ever this year. We drove all the way to North Carolina to pick this one out with B's family! It was well worth the trip.

I love my Willow Tree Nativity...

That picture is one of my favorites of us; It's from our first married Christmas!

***The third stocking is not a baby announcement. Maxx is just special enough to have a Pottery Barn stocking, too : )

Oh, and if you wanted to see how I made that Burlap Garland on the mantel, check out my post here!

The Kitchen:

When we moved into our house, we decided to leave the cabinet doors above the oven off. I use this space to house my cookbooks, but also to bring a little seasonal decor into our house...

All things gingerbread... I love these little guys and gals!

The Dining Room:

My obsession with my Christmas china goes deep. Sadly, I haven't had a dining room table to set it out on since we got married.

This table was my parents', and I'm so grateful to have it in my home now. I was determined to have it set with my Christmas dishes, and I'm so proud of how it turned out! Shout out to my Ginnie and my mother for helping me!

Christmas 2016 was really great, and I'm sad to see it go. I would honestly leave the decorations up all through winter if my husband would let me... Hopefully next year I will make even more additions to my decor stock pile!
