Friday Five 8/16/19

We have had a GREAT week around here! With Bryant sick last week, I was going absolutely stir crazy so I was excited to have a few days to get out of the house and get back to normal.

  1. Ginnie’s New House

My grandmother decided this year it was time to downsize. She got the cutest little apartment and my aunt and mom have spent the last few weeks working hard to fix it up. It’s so weird to think she’s not in the house I grew up with her in, but I know she will love her new place just as much as it becomes home!

2. Baby Led Weaning Update

We set a goal for Bryant to try 100 foods before he turns 1 and this week we hit 50 foods! He is doing so good, and loves to eat. There really hasn’t been a food he hasn’t liked so far (which I know won’t last, but don’t rain on my parade) and I love watching him try new foods and textures. This past week we tried quinoa which was a MESS but he really seemed to like it once he got past the texture.

3. Back to School Fusion

We initiated the 6th graders into the youth group this week and it was just pitiful. Taylor always thinks of something gross to dump on their heads or make them eat! It’s hilarious but it makes them stronger in the end : )

Getting Back in the Kitchen

After Bryant was born, and trying to adjust to our new life and routine, we kind of stopped cooking for a while. We ate out a lot or would cook really basic stuff. This month I challenged myself to start cooking again, and I have loved it! This week we tried some new recipes, some tried and true recipes and B even made biscuits last weekend! I’m gonna do a post soon about some of the recipes we’ve tried, so be on the lookout for that.

New Additions to Our Home

With Ginnie moving, she wasn’t able to take all her furniture, so I got her China cabinet. I don’t have one of my own, so I was excited to get something like this from her. I love to entertain, so I have a lot of plates and serving pieces, and I’m happy they all have a home now.

Another addition at the house is our baby gate! We went as long as we could, but we couldn’t avoid it any longer. Bryant wasn’t a fan when we first got it but he is used to it now! And I like that this one is a neutral color and kind of blends in with our current decor. Highly recommend!

A Denim Shirt... 3 Ways!

Y’all, it is so H O T! These really are the “dog days” of summer, and I for one am ready for the weather to cool off… A lot of the boutiques I follow on Instagram are already posting sweaters and boots in preparation for fall, but I know it will be a little while longer before we are ready for all that!

One of my favorite pieces of clothing year round is a denim shirt, and it has definitely been a staple this summer! I love denim because it is always in season and can be styled so many different ways! It’s such a great transition piece as we prepare the weather to cool down, as well. I wanted to show y’all how you can take one shirt and make three totally different outfits for any occasion!

Casual Day Out

Denim Top / Linen Shorts / Flip Flops / Earrings / Sunglasses

I have posted about linen shorts already this summer, and I definitely consider them a staple for the hot weather. I LOVE them with this denim shirt and flip flops. This would be the perfect outfit for lunch with a friend or running errands. I love when I can just throw my hair in a messy bun and still look cute!

Working Girl Chic

Shirt / Pants / Shoes / Earrings / Bag (similar)

I just think every girl should have a good pair of black pants in their closet. This outfit would be great for the office or a casual dinner date. I like the tied up look with the high waisted pants — and I paired it with an oversized leather bag and my favorite espadrilles.

Sunday Best

Shirt / Skirt / Wedges / Sunglasses / Earrings / Diaper Bag

I know a lot of girls who don’t think they can pull off a maxi skirt, but I think they would be pleasantly surprised if they just step out of their comfort zone and try it! Now that I am usually running around with Bryant in tow, I love to have easy go-to outfits that are still stylish and dressy, but I don’t have to put a lot of work into them! This was the perfect outfit for church Sunday. I love the denim top with the striped skirt, and then a simple wedge sandal.

Even though I love buying new clothes, I really like when I can take an item I’ve had in my closet for a while and give it new life and a fresh look! I hope this was helpful for y’all… I hope to do more posts like this in the future!

My Favorite High End Beauty Products

Hey y’all!

Last month I shared my favorite drugstore/affordable beauty products and a lot of you have messaged me telling me you have tried the products and loved them! I’m so glad my posts have been helpful, and I absolutely love when people reach out to tell me they like a product I recommended!

I decided I would share some of my favorite products that are a little more on the pricey side, but totally worth the money. Since I made the decision to stay home with Bryant, I am having to be more money conscious than ever before, but these products truly are worth the extra cash. I would not recommend them if they weren’t!

Face Products

My skin issues are : Acne scarring, Large pores, and Redness. I am always on the hunt for products that will even my skin tone and texture and I think this is the holy grail. Trust me, this trio will give you the MOST flawless face you have ever seen.

  • Smashbox Primer Water: This really hydrates my skin and my foundation goes on so smooth after I spray this on. I even spray this on my face on days when I don’t wear makeup because it’s so refreshing and hydrating. I especially love during the winter months when my skin gets super dry!

  • Smashbox Photo Finish Primer: I love using primer because keeps my makeup on for much longer than without! I don’t use it every day, but for when I really need my makeup locked in. Smashbox has several different kinds of primer, so check them all out! This one is my favorite because it fills in my pores, but they have one for redness, oily skin, dull skin, etc!

  • Estee Lauder Double Wear: Full disclosure, if you don’t like a heavy or thick foundation, this is probably not for you. BUT it is the best foundation for your money, in my humble opinion! It covers EVERYTHING and stays on for hours. I only have to use 2 pumps to cover my face, so one bottle lasts me about 3 months.

Eyeshadow Palettes

I have a serious palette addiction. I cannot stay away. And they are the one thing I refuse to skimp on. These palettes all have great color pay off, are easy to blend and stay on your eyelids for a long time. I have a lot more I could share, but these are my absolute favorites and are constantly in my rotation!

Brows & Mascara

  • Anastasia Brow Wiz: This brow pencil will change your life. You can fill your brows so easily and they look so natural. It’s easy to go in with a light hand if you’re new to filling in your brows and aren’t too sure where to begin. I think the color selection is the best too, so you can find your perfect shade!

  • Benefit They’re Real Mascara: I have super short and thin eyelashes, and this mascara is my absolute favorite to keep me from looking dead. B actually bought this for me as a gift before I had even tried it and he really hit the nail on the head. I love the brush because it has so many little bristles so it gets every lash. It also lasts ALL day.

Setting Powder, Bronzer, Highlighter

  • Laura Mercier Setting Powder: I have had the same container of powder for almost 2 years and I’m just now starting to run out. It doesn’t take much to set your makeup and it is 100% translucent — no white cast on your face! I mainly use it to set my concealer under my eyes, but during the summer I set my whole face since I’m usually sweating in this Georgia heat!

  • Benefit Hoola Bronzer: This bronzer was sent down from heaven. It is the absolute perfect shade to give you a sunkissed look, is not shimmery OR orange! I use bronzer year round to keep from looking dead and I highly recommend this. It lasts forever, too because you truly don’t need much! They also have a travel size that is only 11.99 if you’d rather try before you invest in the big one!

  • Smashbox Spotlight Palette: It is very rare that I don’t wear highlighter. Even when I go more natural with my make up, I usually put a dab on my cheeks. It just makes your skin look dewy without being oily and just brightens your whole face up! This palette also lasts forever, so you’re getting your moneys worth, for sure.

Hair

During the summer, I try not to blow my hair dry as much.
First of all, it’s too hot, but I also like to give my hair a little break from the heat, the pool water, the sweat, etc… Any time I do use my blow dryer though, I always use these three products.

  • Pureology Hydrate Shine Max Serum: I have used Pureology prducts on and off since high school and I have always been a fan. I recently starting using this serum, and my hair hasn’t been this shiny in a long time! I put it on my towel dried hair, even if I’m not planning to blow it dry. It adds shine without making it greasy, decreases frizz and fly aways, and it also helps seal in my color longer! I use 2 pumps if I’m blowing my hair dry but only 1 if I’m letting it air dry.

  • Keranique Follicle Boosting Serum: After Bryant was born, I was terrified of post-partum hair loss. I had read horror stories of hunks of hair falling out or breaking off of women’s heads and I was so scared of this happening to me! I have very thin hair as it is, and I am not about that bald life… #BigHeadProbs
Anyway, I don’t know if it was my prayers or this stuff, but either way I’m thankful to say I am 8 months PP and have yet to have any hair fall out! I use this after the shine serum and spray it directly onto my roots throughout my head and then massage it into my scalp. I will say if you don’t immediately dry your hair, it can make it greasy, so I would only spray this on when you are ready to start blow drying!

  • Keranique Lift & Repair Treatment Spray: The third and final product from my regiment is this spray. It gives me volume. seals & strengthens my hair AND is a heat protectant! I spray this throughout my hair and then finger comb it from the roots to the ends. I can tell a noticeable difference in the fullness of my hair when I use it! I highly recommend this for my thin or limp haired gals!

July Favorites

Just a disclaimer, there is nothing exciting about this month’s favorites… Just some tried and true things I have actually used A LOT during the month of July! Let me know if you try anything! : )

Ok, I know this is so pricey, but I am NOT exaggerating when I tell you: I use this EVERY day.

Now that Bryant is crawling, and into everything, I have to keep stuff off the floor! Especially around the kitchen and den, where he is the most. This vacuum is cordless and the hanger is also the charger, so it’s always ready to go! I love that I don’t have to touch the canister to empty it, too!

We used a Swiffer for years before I had just had enough. I broke the handle all the time and the pads/cleanser were so expensive over time! We found this on Amazon, and we have never looked back. I use my own cleaner, which I prefer to the Swiffer liquid, but it’s also cheaper! I also really like that the mop pads are washable. Less waste and saving me money = A win-win.

I’ve posted about this before, but I wanted to share it again because Bryant loves it that much! I got this as a shower gift last year when I was pregnant, and just pulled it out of Bryant’s closet. This is his first real interactive toy and he loves it. He pushes all the buttons and flips all the switches himself, plus it will be great for him to push around once he starts walking!

I’ve used towel clips for a couple of summers, but I didn’t realize everyone didn’t have these! I know summer is drawing to a close, but these are a MUST HAVE! I absolutely hate when my towel slides down the back of my chair and balls up behind my back and I’m constantly having to pull it back up and smooth it back out… You know you hate it, too! These clips are really a lifesaver and I highly recommend.

I already shared this on my Instagram, but I have to tell y’all again: This candle is AWESOME.

I like candles, but am pretty picky about my scents. I don’t like anything too smelly or intrusive. But this candle is the BEST non-holiday scent from Bath & Body Works! It’s sweet but not too heavy, and just a perfect summer scent. I am really irritated that I missed their semi-annual sale so I could stock up, but I will still be purchasing more!
